Yasin and our V&A Approach to Commercial Leasing

I am Yasin,

A lease in our neighbourhood is more than just office space. It’s an empowering home for businesses that care about their people, communities and the planet.

Beyond office space

“We’re not your typical office landlords,” explains Yasin, who champions our V&A commercial leasing point of view. “There are so many options when it comes to workplaces. So, what sets us apart? Well, of course, our one-of-a-kind location plays a big part.  Where else in the world can you work from at the edge of the ocean with unbeatable views of one of the New 7 Wonders of the Natural World?"

“Our commercial tenants also enjoy being a part of a living and breathing neighbourhood full of non-stop inspiration and unrivalled convenience. It’s a world of perks, every time an employee steps out of the office. We love curating a waterfront world that motivates all who work in it.

We’re also intentional about curating a varied mix of businesses, from blue chip companies and local giants to small firms, soloprenuers and non-profit businesses on the brink of changing the world — just like the Cape Craft and Design Institute (CDI, which supports creative small businesses and moved from subsidised office space to a much bigger space at Cruise Terminal, a shining example of growth in our neighbourhood) and the Little Optimist Sailing Academy (which uses V&A-subsidised commercial space along our Battery Park canal to provide sailing therapy to underprivileged youth).”

Our presence at the V&A Waterfront has been a source of empowerment and inspiration for the CDI. Being at the heart of such a vibrant destination keeps us connected to the pulse of the market and the creativity that defines it. This unique setting gives us an authentic understanding of how to nurture and grow businesses within a lively and supportive marketplace.

The space itself is alive with possibility, drawing both customers and passionate employees eager to be part of something meaningful. It helps us attract partners who believe in our vision, while the prestige of having the Waterfront as our address gives us pride and credibility. At the same time, having our back-of-house operations here means we can run programmes with efficiency and heart, combining innovation with practical support for small businesses. Together, this creates a powerful platform that drives business success, fosters development, and empowers the entire creative community.

“The Waterfront has given us both a home and a platform to change lives.

The Waterfront and Battery Park have played a vital role in the success of the Little Optimist Trust over the past four years. The canals and our space here have given us both a respected location and the chance to create a Safe Space for the at-risk youth we empower. With this foundation, our programmes have flourished, winning international awards and building partnerships with global sports teams, international events, and organisations such as the IOC, the French Consulate, and the City of Cape Town.
